You are forgiven if you thought otherwise. Between the time-sucks that are my lovely children, the awesomeness that is work and other obligations blogging has fallen a bit on the priority list. So what happened since the last time? Not much, really. We just returned from vacationing a week on the beach. My vitamin D supply is secured for the winter and we had a good time. I thought about updating the blog there, but the internet was managed by a pair of carrier pigeons. The kids are growing like weeds, Connor returns to school in a couple of weeks as a first grader, Xander and Tyler switch from being sweet to being, well something different within a couple of minutes.

Of course it would be nice if I now had a vacation to recover from the vacation, but that’s wishful thinking.

2010 ended pretty much like 2009 did as roughly 40% of the family were sick. I spend New Year’s Eve evening at the Urgent Care Dr. with Tyler who was diagnosed with sinusitis & conjunctivitis (he had a cold for several days & a low grade fever and then he started throwing up), followed by a pre-midnight run with him to the 24hr pharmacy to pick up his antibiotics. As a side effect Lisa & I were actually awake at midnight.

Connor turned 6 years old this week, going on 11. He is a great kindergartner, does Karate and already has his yellow belt. Video games already take up s majority of his interests, buy there is still time for some old-fashioned play.

On a slightly related note the sparseness of blog posts can be explained by the usual suspects .

Summer already?

Many things have happened since the last post:

Xander is now 3, Tyler is 2 years old. Both conspire with Connor to drive me crazy, but don’t succeed because I get tired first.
In March we had to put down our chocolate lab Bosco. He was 14 1/2 years old. The kids have absolutely no understanding of what had happened and remind us at every inopportune moment that “the brown dog died”.
Since apparently we are itching for punishment, we got a puppy in May. Her name is Peaches and she is at least part shepherd, part lab. She is a sweet puppy, but of course she is doing her best to increase our cleanup workload.
Our AC broke just when the temperatures climbed to scratch the 100 F mark. It took a week to get the necessary spare parts, but just in time for the next heatwave we are enjoying cool air.
I got promoted.
I still don’t have much time to blog.

So the damage is as follows:

Xander: viral pneumonia
Tyler: ear infections on both sides
Connor: general case of whininess

Both Tyler and Xander are on antibiotics (for Xander’s just in case the Dr. is wrong about the viral part) and are extra needy. The good news is that they are doing relatively good.

So on Monday morning a dangerous thought snuck itself into my head: it has been a while since the kids have been sick and for this I was thankful. Enter Tuesday: Tyler has a fever and I stay home with him. Wednesday: Tyler & Xander have both fevers and Lisa stayed home with all three kids. Tyler seems better, but Xander is still coughing his lungs out. And why all of a sudden they get sick? Because we made the mistake to take them to a kids birthday party at a Chick-fil-A and the germ factory that is their playground.
